Today we celebrate the 46th anniversary of out beloved Peneda-Gerês National Park (in Portuguese: Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês, thus PNPG)!
It was the first natural reserve in Portugal, and today it is still the sole National Park, the highest grade for conservation purposes, due to the importance of its territory: the Peneda, Soajo, Amarela and Gerês mountain ranges, from the Castro Laboreiro to the Mourela Plateaus.
In these 700 square km with human occupation since the Neolithic we can observe the diversity in fauna, flora, geology and geography, and also in popular architecture, agriculture and cattle raising with peculiar traditions. Click here to find out more.
No wonder it attracts so many visitors – more each year – who in this Park find peace and quiet, wonderful views, impressive lights and a lot of activities to try in an huge area ready to be explored.
It’s not very far from Porto, actually quite near Braga, but you’ll feel like entering a completely different reality!
