Rita was very helpful and kept me informed about arrangements as... read more the day approached. Pick up in Valenca was exactly on time and over the next 12 hours Pedro and Rita delivered perhaps the best value "tour" I have ever purchased. We were blessed with beautiful weather and began the day with a couple of walks on the "yellow mountain" where the scotch broom and gorse were both in full bloom. Pedro was full of information about the geology, the flora and the history - including medieval wolf traps and grain stores. After a lovely lunch in their home village we progressed to a walk on the roman road in the forested section of the park - and a selection of stunning wild swimming spots. We only left the park as dusk fell and then they dropped me at my accomodation in Guimaraes. It was a very full and perfect day in wonderful company (as well as being knowledgeable, Rita and Pedro are both lovely people). I cannot recommend this company highly enough and am already plotting when and how I might return to explore the little known mountain Camino with them.

They gave us a walking tour of Braga history from the time of the ancient Romans, to learning about modern local traditions.... read more We saw beautiful Roman archeological sites, shared great food and drink, and toured the Se Cathedral. They are both very knowledgeable about local history and are great storytellers! We highly recommend their tours to anyone wanting to experience northern Portugal in a more personal way while having a wonderful time!

We saw some amazing places that we would never have been able to find on our own, not too off the beaten track (we are not the best hikers) but still away from the crowds which we were very impressed by given it was August and there were lots of tourists in the park in general.

We were able to do everything that we wanted to as well as see some of the most beautiful and interesting spots we didn't even know existed! Pedro was able to answer all of the long list of questions we had from culture, geology, history and everything in between!

We also had a wonderful lunch (and goodie bag filled with locally made treats) which is one of the best meals we've had in Portugal. Even my partner's more restrictive dietary requirements were catered for which was a big relief to us!

We could never have toured the national park like we did without Pedro's insight and will certainly be asking for another tour when we return!

  Gerês Tour - Couple travelling with 3 year old toddler - We spent a most wonderful day in the company of Pedro and Rita visiting the Geres National Park and its beautiful rivers, lakes and mountains. We were picked up perfectly... read more on time at our hotel in Braga with a spacious SUV equipped with a child seat and were greeted with a snack bag for every participant, such a nice touch. Pedro brilliantly tailored our day according to our interests (for us, wild swimming and gentle hikes - he succeeded in finding places that would make us adults go wow whilst being accessible and enjoyable also by a toddler, not an easy task!). We had lunch in a charming and delicious local restaurant. Pedro and Rita are passionate (about their job, the region and sustainable traveling), and eager to share their infinite knowledge. To top it all off, Pedro is great with kids: our daughter (normally a very difficult customer) was just delighted. When booking, I thought the price point was steep. When the day was over, I felt I had underpaid. Our expectations were met and exceeded. We would not hesitate to recommend this activity.

We opted to try canyoning, ... read more and it turned out to be a superb day. From the beginning all communication with Keen Tours was prompt, professional and friendly. The day of our trip, we were collected promptly and driven in comfort to the remote rural villages in the Geres national park. Our guide was Pedro, who had an amazing knowledge and very obvious love of the area and it's flora fauna and people. He was brilliant. Our canyoning expert guide was Carlos, who was equally proficient in his field, and though we were novice, was very patient with us, and relaxed professional and so good at getting all the gear set up, he made it look easy which I know it wasn't.
We had such good fun canyoning down the river, and a lovely tour of the local area, seeing the villages and wild ponies, also a delicious hearty meal, made with local produce in a great little restaurant. Highly recommend this tour company. I only wish we were here longer and could go and do some stuff with them. I have no doubt it would be brilliant. Priceless memories. Thanks

On the way, he gave very informative introduction about area including it’s culture and history. It was unlucky that it rained the whole day, but surprisingly we see a very special image of the park and enjoyed it a lot! We recommended this to everyone!

  Gerês trip - Several family members were visiting Porto and my sister in law and I wanted to get out of the city, so I booked a Gerês Park tour on Get Your... read more Guide, which subcontracts to Keen Tours.

We were picked up in Porto by Pedro. He first asked us what our interests were—I said the Iberian wolf and Allison stated she just wanted to see the park.

Pedro obviously knew his way around the park and he organizes the tour based on interest and fitness level of his group. He only does private tours, so these are not mixed with other travelers.

We drove to a remote area of the park & hiked up huge rocky escarpements to the shepherds corral. Although, as expected, I did not see a wolf, I saw many wolf tracks in the bog and some scat! The vistas from the mountain area & the corral were simply amazing. We saw NO other people during our hike in this beautiful wilderness. After an invigorating jaunt, we went to a local place for a traditional abundant lunch, even including vino verde. In the afternoon, we had a driving tour of the park stopping to see the Roman milestones and waterfalls. To top off our day, just after sunset, we went to Spain (an unexpected additional country!) to soak in the hot springs under the full moon.

There is a bit of driving as Porto is about an hour’s drive from Gerês Park. That’s the only downside, but it was punctuated by friendly conversations with Pedro. Pedro is exceptionally well educated on natural history, politics and the environment. Pedro and his wife Rita, own Keen tours and I can attest that this is a company that any socially conscious traveler can support.

Keen Tours was a highlight of our experience in Portugal and I would highly recommend this company (pro tip—schedule directly with Keen Tours for the best value)

  Small group tour - Pedro collected us at our campground at Lima Escape (clamping highly recommend as a base). He is very friendly and personal and tries to take into account individual wishes... read more for the tour. He has all kinds of expert knowledge in the history of the area the and can tell you all about the different plants and animal life too. He took us to a very authentic restaurant, make sure to tell him about any dietary issues as he can arrange that too. He’s very friendly and easy to talk to an overall we had a great time, Area is absolutely breathtaking beautiful. Do not try to do it without a guide!!! Drive is challenging and you really will benefit from having the narrative that goes with it.

In my case I wanted to go on a long hike... read more in Geres followed by a visit to Bom do Jesus. Rita and Pedro went way above and beyond to give me everything I asked for. Pedro knows and loves this area of Portugal. With a Masters degree in geology he is very knowledgeable about the history of the area. On our hike we saw wild horses being chased by 3 wolves being chased by dogs who were protecting the goatherd. We also had an interesting encounter with the shepherd. I could say much more. But to summarize do not hesitate to hire them to explore the area!

They are super knowledgeable, each hike is in a different place, they know history of the area, know locals and places not normally frequented by other people and tours. Each time is new, exciting and exhilarating. They always know special spots for dips in the rivers and near waterfalls, hidden in magical spots..with Covid they provide masks as they are very invironment aware. Special friendly people. I have also experienced their picnics..wow.

The great nature sights, springs, waterfalls and local villages were charming, and all the knowledge of the local history and ecosystem provided by Pedro really enhanced the experience. It should be mentioned that one of our guests had sprained her ankle before joining us. Pedro adjusted the itinerary and schedule so that she and we could still fully enjoy each day without missing our interests (during our hike she visited with Rita at their traditional store in Covide, learning about the various products sourced from the Gerês region). Even though we now live in Braga, we continue to book through Keen Tours to keep exploring and learning about the north of Portugal. They are our guides.
